          Minimum contributions of $20-25 is requested for each concert. Contributions vary based on the size of the group performing.  Please pay by either cash or check made payable to the artist at the door.  Advanced reservations can be made.  The reservations can be transferred to a friend, if you find you cannot attend a particular concert.  With advanced reservations we ask you to complete the contribution to the artist, if you cancel less than a week before the performance.

                  Individual artists may provide CD's for sale.  If you wish to purchase, please do so by check or cash, as we cannot provide support for credit cards.

Tickets are transferrable.

Celebration of Women Artists In Music

We are promoting a theme of Women Artists In Music for the 2012/13 season.  Groups from around the world will join us featuring music, discussions and historical perspective on the contributions of woman to the evolution and development of music as an art form.

Artists In Residence Program - July 2012

The Artist In Residence Program for 2012 is the blues artist Elanor Ellis. Elanor has performed on a worldwide basis celebrating and advocating this uniquely American style of music.  Elanor was born in New Orleans and is an historian, editor, producer and performer and will be providing wonderful stories as to the impact of women in the blues.  Elanor will be in residence from July 16-19th. The evening of Wednesday July 18th Elanore will provide an interactive concert at our home sharing song and food representative of "southern" blues.

Eleanor Ellis is the preeminent acoustic folk/blues guitarist of the Mid-Atlantic region. Her efforts to preserve traditional blues, to keep it alive for posterity has been accomplished in many ways, not only as an artist, but also as writer, archivist, filmmaker, and co-founder of the DC Blues Society. Her new CD “Comin’a Time” is remarkable!

A program of "Women In Blues and Jazz" performed by Barbara Martin Quartet.  The quartet will feature guitar, piano, bass and drums and will present a program dedicated to women in blues and jazz throughout the 20th century including dedications to among others Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.

The Sima Trio brings chamber music to life creating a cross-cultural awareness from their common Armenian heritage.  Their focus is on performing standard and forgotten repertoire bringing to light new and old works from their culture and background.  Sami Merdinian is featured on violin, Ani Kalayjian on cello and Sofya Melikyan on piano.

  • Washington Camerata       March 23rd, 2013        Saturday    7:30 pm         

Washington Camerata is dedicated to the performance of flute and harpsichord music from the 17th and 18th centuries.  Performing on harpsichord is Elena Tsai, Alicia Kosack and Sarah McIver on travero and Kelly Kazik on traverso and recorder.  Dr. Alicia Kosack, will provide an open discussion on the role of women during the 18th century.

Cecilia is a versatile Latin American vocalist who captures the essence of several ,musical genres, specializing in Brazilian music, American jazz and South American folk music.  Cecilia will provide vocals in Spanish, Portuguese and English.  The Cantare, Latin American Music group also features Patricia Verger (Brazil), and Diana Saez and Marvette Perez from Puerto Rico.

 

  • Celtic Literature & Music                         May 11th, 2013      Saturday 8:00 pm

Mary Condren is a respected author, Director of the Institute For Feminism and Religion and a faculty member of Trinity College based in Ireland. Deirdre Ni Chinneide is an internationally known singer of Celtic spiritual music,  Mary and Deidre will present a recital combining the historical aspects of feminism and religion with the spiritual music of the Irish-Celtic tradition.
