ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM will feature Carolyn Oh on flute and Matthew Van Hoose on piano. Carolyn Oh, who has
performed previously as part of the home concert series will be joined by the classically trained pianist, Dr. Matthew Van Hoose. Carolyn is the principle flutist for the Washington
Symphony and Peter is one of the more sought after pianists in the Washington DC area. Peter and Carolyn will be visiting our home for several days enjoying the beach and relaxing. During the evening there will be a recital or two comprising flute and piano.
Peter Fields and the World Chamber Club is an ensemble founded by guitarist Peter Fields. The Trio consists of Dannice Crespo on viola and violin and Claude Arthur on upright bass, while Peter plays classical guitar. The featured vocalist is the alto Tara Hofmann. The founder, Peter Fields, has captivated audiences in the United States and Europe with his mastery of diverse musical styles and guitar techniques. In addition to his sophisticated original compositions, his repertoire ranges from classical guitar, jazz and latin muisc. His performances as a finalist in the American Fingerstyle Guitar Festival and the National Guitar Championships establish Peter as a fresh new voice in the world of virtuoso guitar music. Dannice Crespo started playing the
violin at age 9 taking lessons from Maestro Daniel Perego at the Instituto de Bellas Artes in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Ms. Crespo has performed with the South Arkansas Synphony, Pine Bluff Symphony, Celebrated String Quartet, Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Pan-American Symphony and the Amore Trio. Claude Arthur has been a professional musician for over 25 years. A graduate of the Music Department of the Univeristy of Mary Washington he has played bass,
guitar, mandolin, flute, drums and banjo. To match the diversity in instruments he performed around the world from Europe to San Francisco to the Kennedy Center and the Philadelphis Folk Festival. He has performed with or on the same bill as artists ranging from Dr. Hook and the New Riders of the Purple Sage to Arlo Guthrie and the Stray Cats. Tara Hofmann has been enteratining jazz and blues audiences all over the DC area since 1997. With her
rich alto voice she is equally comfortable in both jazz and blues. She adds her own special twist to jazz classics and pop tunes.
Paul Wingo Trio features Paul Wingo on lead guitar. Paul's interest in jazz began at age 11 and
continues to this day. He has performed in a variety of venues around the country including the White House. He has recorded with such legendary artists as Zoot Sims, Herb Ellis and Charlie Byrd and carries forward the traditions of Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis. Paul graduated from University of Maryland in 1968 and after college became a full time working musician taking lessons from Billy Gibson,Frank Mullen, Howard Roberts and Joe Pass. From 1980 to 1992 he studied with Dr. Asher Zlotnick and also was a member of the Army Blues Band during which time he performed at the White House. Paul is a teacher of jazz adjuticating the East Coast Jazz Competition as well as his long term interest of helping and teaching emerging artists. Paul has recorded with the Army Blues Band, Tim Eyermann, Ronnie Wells, Bill Potts' Big Band, Uptown Vocal Jazz, Debbie MacFarlan and Nikki Ryan. Paul's trio includes Jeff Reed on bass and Mike Kuhl on drums. Jeff Reed is an acoustic bassist, 
composer and educator. Studying under Victor Dvoskin he has earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Towson University, where he currently teaches acoustic and electric bass. With the acoustic bass as his indtrument Jeff has played in almost every major Baltimore and DC jazz venue.
The Rick Olivarez Trio led by Rick Olivarez is the leading proponent of gypsy jazz.
The trio's roots goes back in time to Django Reinhardt and Paris in the 1930's. The trio consists of Rick Olivarez playing lead guitar, Jeff Cheers on rythym guitar and David Berzonsky on upright bass. Rick began his career in the early '80's and now resides in Charlottesville, VA, where he teaches gypsy jazz when he is not on the road. Jeff Cheers also hails from central Virginia and plays rythym guitar for the triowith his
upright bass supports a broad range of musical styles. Dave Berzonsky is a highly
accomplished bassist, composer and teacher. Dave also lives in Charlottesville and has a deep interest in indigenous folk music from Mexico and Peru. Dave's credits range from west African traditional music to jazz, funk, acoustic folk and various types of Latin and Caribbean music. Dave is also the co-founder of global roots fusion band Lua.
The Potomac Guitar Trio will present an evening of music dedicated to the late Charlie Byrd. The trio consists of Phil Mathieu, Jeff Meyerriecks and Pete Fields. The recital will consist of a concise history
of classical Brazilian guitar music featuring classic composers such as Joan Pernuambuco, Pixinguinha and the Bossa Nova standards of AC Jobim. The trio will also perform original compositions by Charlie Byrd. Pete's repertoire ranges from classical guitar, jazz and Latin American. Phil Mathieu is a musician, teacher, composer and
arrnager. He was recently awarded "Best Classical Instrumentalist" by WAMA. Mathieu regular guests with the Kennedy Center opera house orchestra and has also appeared with the National Gallery orchestra. He was a member of the prestigious Washington Guitar Quintet led by Charlei Byrd. Peter recently appeared at our home conceert series performing "Chamber Music with Guitar". Peter has captivated audiences with his mastery of diverse musical styles and approach to guitar techniques. His repertoire ranges from classical guitar, jazz and Latin American music as well as arrangements of R&B classics. Pete's is also the founder of the Peter Fields and Anthem Trio. Jeff Meyerriecks studied classical guitar with Andres Segovia, Jesus Silva and Sophocles Papas. His first major honor was his prize-winning performance at the prestigious Palestrina International Guitar Competition in Brazil. In
recent years he has expanded his interest in jazz. He has performed with such jazz greats as Charlie Byrd and Louis Bellson and Baroque violinist Eduard Melkus. He is a teacher with an international reputation and has taught master classes throughout the world. He is on the faculties of George Mason and Catholic Universities.
The Monument Trio enjoys arranging classical pieces into arrangements suitable for smaller ensembles. Recitals have included Hayden's Piano Trio in G Major Brahm' Piano Trio in C Major to Astor Piazzolla's "Primavera Portena".
Their music is all about inviting the audience into their world and celebrating classical music in a very special way. Igor Yuzefovich is a critically acclaimed violinist and serves as the Assistant Concertmaster of the Baltimore Synphony.
An active chamber musician, who won the 1996 Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Russia Quartet Igor founded the Monument Trio in 2004. Dariusz Skoraczewski has been a member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 2000 and is the orchestra's assistant principle cellist. Dariusz is a also a laureate of such international competitions as the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the Rostropovich Competition in Paris. and the Leonard Rose Competition in Washington, DC. He has also been the first prize winner in competitions in California, Virginia and Maryland. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2005.
In 2010 Dariusz released his forst solo CD for cello entitled "CELLO populus". Micheal Shepherd is a pianist of dazzling virtuosity and penetrating musicianship. Trained at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and has studied with Leon Fleisher and Ann Schein. Micheal was one of two 2003 Classical Fellows of the American Pianists Association and toured Souhtern Asia and the Middle East.
In addition to being a Classical Fellow of the American Pianists Association, Micheal has also been a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and the La Gesse Foundation and a prizewinner in the National Federation of the Music Clubs National Competition. Shepherd has received critical acclaim as a grand interpreter of transciptions of operatic tunes as well as American musical theatre in addition to the traditional piano repertory.
